Penzo Pottery African Tea Sets
All we have left in stock is the childs breakfast set.
The brightly colored animals, peacefully enjoying and playing amid African surroundings, are unmistakable. Penzo pottery captures the innocence of these beautiful creatures with an unadulterated love and respect for Africa.
Penny, Penzo. the pottery's founder and a native Zimbabwean, grew up on a farm near Masvingo. She had an insatiable lust to travel the World and by becoming a critical/intensive care nurse, she was able to fulfill that dream. While working in Saudi Arabia on a nursing stint, an accident resulted in Penny smashing her vertebrae and left her confined to a hospital bed for several months.
Bored, restless and longing for home, she took up painting during her confinement, experimenting with oil paints on white plates. She tried to bring Africa a little closer to her bare hospital room by creating her beloved homeland on the plates. The moment she began to paint her native Africa, she realized that she wanted to return home as soon as she was physically able.
Back home in Zimbabwe, Penzo pottery was born. Penny enlisted the help of some of the local unemployed citizens in Victoria Falls. In this beautiful village surrounded with an abundance of wildlife, it didn't take long before these artists to became proficient and begin to express their own inspirations.
Each piece of pottery is hand panted and signed by the artist and is a living, highly functional one of a kind piece of artwork.
